About the History Education Degree

The study of history helps us gain a broad understanding of what happened in the past and what it can teach us. The discipline encompasses past and present civilizations and studies aspects of their political, social, economic, and intellectual development. It’s an important subject to be taught in school. As the study of what has happened, history can open you up to a deeper understanding of things such as politics, religion, economics, and general culture trends. With a History Education degree from Wayne State, you can become a history teacher in a school setting for grades 6-12.

Clinical Practice

Before graduating with your History Education degree, you’ll complete a semester of clinical practice in a school district chosen with the help of your advisor. During this semester, you’ll work closely with an experienced history teacher to gain classroom experience. Internships are not required as part of this program; however, Career Services is available to help students find employment opportunities.
