2019 Schedule of Events


Monday, Sept. 30

Theme: Safari Day

6 – 8 p.m.  Scavenger Hunt - Beginning downtown in Carhart Lumber parking lot. Teams will be given clues to businesses around town, where they will perform a task to move on. The hunt will end at 7:30 p.m. in the Willow Bowl for an awards ceremony, cake, and ice cream. Rewards for top three student teams and top three community teams.

Business Window Decorating - Wayne businesses display their Wayne State pride throughout the week!
 



Tuesday, Oct. 1

Theme: Pajama Day

5 – 7 p.m. All Campus Homecoming Picnic - Hoffbauer Plaza and Frey Conference Suite, Kanter Student Center. (Cost: $8.50 or meal plan for students.)

9 p.m. Magician Mike Super - Ramsey Theatre, Peterson Fine Arts Building
 


 

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Theme: Beach Day

Artswalk - Watch students celebrate the arts across campus through expressions of music, art, language, and literature.

1 p.m. Banner entries due - Decorate a banner with the theme "Let the Good Times Roar." Entry forms are due Sept. 23.

4 p.m. Beach Volleyball Tournament with Intramurals - Sand volleyball courts. Student, faculty, and staff teams compete for prizes. Registration due Sept. 27. Beverages, s’mores, and snacks available for participants.

7 p.m. Nearly Naked Mile - Kanter Student Center Atrium - Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., shotgun start at 7 p.m. Register on site. Must donate an item of clothing to enter the race. All clothing collected will be donated to Micah's Closet, Salvation Army, and Goodwill. Prizes and recognition for first place men's runner, first place women's runner, most clothing donated, and best running outfit. May run in clothing of your choice. Sponsored by the Student Senate and Philomatheans.
 


 

Thursday, Oct. 3

Theme: Decades Day

Artswalk - Watch students celebrate the arts across campus through expressions of music, art, language, and literature.

11:30 a.m. Scholarship Luncheon - Frey Conference Suite, Kanter Student Center (scholarship donors invited)

3:30 – 4:30 p.m. WSC Alumni Employee Appreciation Social - Kanter Student Center Atrium - All WSC faculty and staff invited to celebrate our alumni employees with desserts and entertainment.

4 p.m. Willy Olympics - Bowen Hall Lawn (sponsored by RHA)

8:30 p.m. So You Think You're a Wildcat? - Ramsey Theatre, Peterson Fine Arts Building - A new take on Mr. WSC, this pageant will feature any WSC student who wants to showcase their school spirit. Featuring emcee Feraz Ozel.
 


 

Friday, Oct. 4

Theme: Sports Team Day

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Welcome Center - Kanter Student Center Atrium

10 – 11:30 a.m. Trustee Workshop - Gardner Auditorium, Gardner Business Building

12 – 1 p.m. Trustee Luncheon - Frey Conference Suite, Kanter Student Center (trustees invited)

12 – 1 p.m. Lunch for Visitors - Dining Hall or Cat's Corner, Kanter Student Center

1:30 p.m. Planetarium Show - Carhart Science Building

1:30 – 3 p.m. Annual Trustee Meeting - Gardner Auditorium, Gardner Business Building

3:30 – 5 p.m. WSC Faculty Art Show - Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery, Conn Library. Show by faculty of the Department of Art and Design: Carolyn Albracht, Sarah Lemmon, Francine Fox, Meghan O'Connor, Leroy von Glan, and Joshua Piersanti, with Andy Haslit curating the exhibit.

3 – 5 p.m. Carhart Math and Science Alumni Reunion - PV Library Room 105, Carhart Science Building (Please RSVP. No cost.)

5 p.m. Greek Olympics - Willow Bowl (sponsored by Greek Council)

5:30 p.m. Outstanding Alumni Social and Banquet - Social at 5:30 p.m., Banquet at 6:15 p.m., Frey Conference Suite, Kanter Student Center (Cost: $28 per person, RSVP required)

6 p.m. Volleyball Game - WSC vs. Minnesota State-Mankato, Rice Auditorium (General Admission: $8, K-12 $5)

7 p.m. Planetarium Show - Carhart Science Building

Saturday, Oct. 5

Theme: WSC Pride Day

9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Homecoming Parade - Main Street (sponsored by Student Activities). The parade will end at the Willow Bowl.

9:30 a.m. Band Day - Main Street - Concert in the Willow Bowl will follow the parade at 10:30 a.m.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Campus Tours - Visit the Welcome Table in the Kanter Student Center Atrium to begin your tour!

10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Presidents Society and Honored Classes Brunch - Frey Conference Suite, Kanter Student Center. Presidents Society members and Honored Classes 1959, 1969, 1979 for 60th-, 50th-, and 40th-year reunions invited. (RSVP required.)

10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 60s, 70s, and 80s Greek Reunion Brunch – Niobrara Room, Kanter Student Center - Social fraternities and sororities of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s invited: Alpha Beta Sigma, Beta Sigma Psi, Chi Omega, Delta Sigma Pi, Kappa Delta Gamma, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Epsilon, Pi Alpha Lambda, Sigma Tau Gamma, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Theta Xi Omega, Theta Phi Alpha, and Wayne State College Veterans Fraternity (Cost: $11 per person.
