TRIO Student Support Services

Honors and Recognition

TRIO Student Support Services provides many opportunities for students to be recognized for their academic achievements and involvement at Wayne State College.

Theta Eta Sigma TRIO Scholars Honor Society

The Theta Eta Sigma TRIO Scholars Honor Society was established for Wayne State College students participating in the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Its purpose is to recognize academic excellence, to promote continued academic achievement, and to provide service to our campus and community.

Membership is open to active TRIO students who are of junior standing (while transfer students must have 30 credit hours completed at WSC). Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and cannot drop below a 3.0 GPA for two consecutive semesters. Students must also participate in two TRIO events/activities (e.g. socials, workshops, tutoring sessions) per academic year; and meet with their assigned TRIO advisor once a semester.

The goal is to induct new members during the fall semester. New inductees will be presented with honor cords and a pin. Once inducted, TRIO Scholars’ members who obtain a semester GPA between 3.5 and 4.0 shall be eligible for recognition by the society for their continuing academic excellence.

Freshman Convocation

All TRIO Student Support Services first-year students are invited to attend our annual Freshmen Convocation. Held each January, the Convocation provides an opportunity to recognize the academic accomplishments of freshmen participants during the fall term.

Students earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are awarded framed TRIO Student Support Services Freshmen Honor Roll certificates. Students who have earned a grade point average of 2.5 - 2.999 receive framed Honorable Mention certificates.

Upperclass TRIO Student Support Services participants serve as hosts. Members of the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society conduct the honor ceremony.

TRIO SSS Celebrates Graduates

TRIO Student Support Services graduates for December, May and August are recognized for academic accomplishments during a ceremony. Certificates are presented to each graduate. Family and friends are invited to attend.
