English Education Master's Degree

Courses for the English Education Master's Program

Degree offered: Master of Science in Education (MSE) - Curriculum & Instruction-Instructional Leadership/English Education
Credit hours: 33-36

All courses are available online. Students will take a mixture of core education courses, courses for the English focus area, and optional electives.

Professional education core: 12 credit hours

  • EDU 603 Introduction to Educational Research and Design (3)
  • EDU 652 Instructional Theory and Practice (3)
  • EDU 658 Fundamentals of Curriculum Development PK-16  (3) 
  • EDU 674 History and Philosophy of Education (3)

English concentration: 21-24 credit hours

We encourage students to use your graduate program of study to gain a broad-based education. Beyond the required hours in education, you will select from a rotation of seminars in English literature, creative writing, criticism, linguistics, and related topics.

Electives: 0-3 credit hours

Classes level 600 or above.

Licensing and Certification: This program is designed for teachers who are already certified in this content area as an opportunity to go deeper into their specialty while simultaneously earning a master’s degree.
