Dr. Monica Snowden is a professor of sociology at Wayne State College. Dr. Snowden has a co-authored book: Environment and Society: Human Perspectives on Environmental Issues (6th Edition). Charles Harper and Monica Snowden. Routledge 2017.
In a world marked by rapid mobility, Dr. Snowden has spent the bulk of her personal life and professional career in Lincoln and Wayne, Neb. Nonetheless, she has traveled extensively throughout her life and held short term residences in several different cities and states in the U.S. and in other countries, such as Mandeville, Jamaica, and Vancouver, Canada. Her unique life experiences have shaped her passion for sociology, interests in diversity and social inequalities, and environmentalism. As a professor of sociology, she seeks to share the gift of sociological insight and research skills with her students. This means that students learn to analyze problems from different perspectives and go beyond the surface facts where untold stories are discovered. When students are exposed to the life experiences and social conditions that shape diverse populations and acquire the skills to conduct research and communicate effectively, they are prepared for a wide array of post-graduate careers and educational studies.
Dr. Snowden is a member of the American Sociological Association, Midwest Sociological Society, Rural Sociological Society and Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society.
