Dr. Robert Smith is an assistant professor of exercise science at Wayne State College. He teaches undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, fitness assessment and evaluation, athletic performance and nutrition, as well as physical health and wellbeing.
As an educator, Dr. Smith emphasizes the mentor model where students are taught, in addition to their classroom experience, in an applied manner through laboratory and field based methods. As a practitioner, he has worked as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and weightlifting coach. Dr. Smith utilizes the combination of teaching experience in the classroom and practical experience in the field to offer students foundational knowledge relevant to the field of exercise and hands on practice to provide a well-rounded educational experience.
He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

Academic Interests
Dr. Smith’s research interests focus on the effects of fatigue on skeletal muscle function using non-invasive techniques such as electromyography and mechanomyography, as well as the examination of the interactions between performance fatigability and perceived fatigability under different exercise conditions.
