About the Counseling Department

The desire to help and serve others is a calling and the demand is high. Wayne State will help you develop your human interaction skills with a broad foundation in psychology and sociology. With a human services degree, you will be prepared to help others with certain situations and even help them better understand what is happening in their lives. Wayne State College is one of the few colleges in the nation to offer a four-year degree in human services that makes you ready for the workforce.

If a master’s degree in counseling is in your sights, our specialized coursework and graduate research opportunities will help prepare you for an excellent future. Wayne State’s master's degrees in counseling rank at the top for program completion and job placement rates, low cost, accreditation length, licensing exam pass rate, and research productivity.

The clinical mental health graduate program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)

Ethan Hanson

“I toured a lot of colleges my senior year of high school, but Wayne was so welcoming. It had a wonderful atmosphere and great advising. I like how often the college and community work together. Professors in the counseling major practice what they preach. They would go to the ends of the earth to help you. They are warm and inviting. I’ve noticed they truly want to know who I am, and they have all the tools to help you succeed.”
