Lucas Munter

Lucas Munter is an education instructor in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership at Wayne State College, teaching undergraduate level courses focusing on special educational needs (SENs). He is a member of the Library Committee as well as the Education Practicum Assessment Committee.

Munter was born and raised in Wayne, Neb. He is a veteran of the Army National Guard, where he served for 20 years. In 2005, Munter deployed to Iraq for 15 months as a convoy security gunner with the 189th Transportation Company out of Wayne, in conjunction with the 4th Infantry Division. While deployed, Munter continued his education online through Wayne State College, and earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management. Once back in the "real world," Munter decided that education and coaching was what he really wanted to do. He went on to obtain a teaching certificate in K-12 Special Education, a master’s in Education Administration 7-12, and a master’s endorsement in Education Administration PK-6.

Before joining the WSC faculty, Munter worked for Walthill Public Schools, Winnebago Public Schools, and Wakefield Community Schools. His roles included teaching special education (K-12), serving as an athletic director, and coaching varsity basketball, wrestling, and track. These positions allowed him to gain valuable insight on diverse populations of students as well as varying disabilities.

Munter’s wife Bailey is a first grade teacher at Allen Consolidated Schools. Bailey has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master’s from Doane University in Curriculum and Instruction and English as a Second Language. The Munters have two daughters and a son. The Munter family and their two dogs (Mookie and Tucker) reside in Wayne. Munter is an avid Husker football and Red Sox fan. In his spare time, Munter enjoys golfing, bow hunting, and bass fishing. He also owns a lawnmowing business in Wayne.
