Dr. Kim (Schlueter) Snyder ‘88 is an assistant professor in the Department of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Wayne State College, where she also serves as chair of the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership. Additionally, she is a member of the Academic and Co-Curricular Assessment Committee, which fosters a culture of academic and co-curricular learning assessment at WSC. In her professional service, Snyder is an active member of the Nebraska State Literacy Association (NSLA), advocating for enhanced literacy across the state. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Educational Service Unit No. 1 and is a mentor with the Teammates program.
Before joining the WSC faculty, Snyder worked for the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) for a decade. Her roles included assessment, accreditation, and, for five years, serving as the Statewide Director of Teacher and Principal Support. These positions allowed her to gain insights from school leaders, teachers, and families statewide.
Prior to her tenure at the NDE, Snyder taught for 27 years in Nebraska public schools, covering all sizes of districts from rural to urban. This diverse experience enriches her perspective in her current role. In 2013, she was honored with Nebraska’s Christa McAuliffe Prize for Courage and Excellence in Education.
Snyder's academic interests focus on two key areas: literacy and continuous improvement.
Snyder’s husband, Eric Snyder ’89, was a band director in four Nebraska districts throughout his career. They have two sons who graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Jacob, who teaches English in Shanghai, China, and Mitch, a computer engineer in Omaha. Snyder enjoys reading, spending time with family, and traveling in her spare time.
