About the Ensemble
The Wayne State College Wind Ensemble, formed in 1998, is the college’s premiere concert band. Comprised of the most select wind players from the campus, the Wind Ensemble is dedicated to performing quality literature from the standard repertoire as well as exploring contemporary literature for band. Recent projects include a commission consortium with composers John Hennecken and Ken Froelich for 2013; world premieres of Movements for Wind Ensemble by "up and coming" composer Jack Hughes; To the Horizon, by Thomas C. Duffy and Time Cycle, by Philip Pfaltzgraff to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of Wayne State College.
The Wind Ensemble performs at least four campus concerts each year and for special events in the region. Annual touring has taken this ensemble to destinations such as Scotland, Englad Chicago, Ireland, Austria and Italy. The WSC Wind Ensemble has established itself as one of the premiere instrumental groups in northeast Nebraska and is a vital part of the Wayne State community.
