Honor Choir

2019 Honor Choir Festival - Friday, Feb. 15, 2019

Wayne State will be hosting an opportunity for your students to shine during the 2018-19 academic year! The annual WSC Honor Choir Festival is held on the Wayne State College campus.

The 2019 event will bring together some of the best high school voices in the region for an exciting day of music-making. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and culminate in a joint concert with the WSC Concert Choir at 4 p.m. in Rice Auditorium. Admission is $5 for adults, and students are free.

In an effort to provide balanced singing opportunities, we are pleased to offer two honor choirs again this year. The mixed choir will be conducted by Matthew Armstrong and the women’s choir will be conducted by Luke Lovegood, choral director at Iowa Western Community College. Students will be selected for the ensembles based on the total number of entries and recommendations by their high school directors.

When possible, please nominate a full mixed quartet. While extra men and women are welcome, don't hesitate to bring additional young ladies to enhance the women’s honor choir. We are excited about the literature and expect both choirs will provide wonderful experiences again this year. Although sectional rehearsals are planned, students will have a better experience if time is spent preparing the music before the festival.

Participation Cost

The cost is $15 per singer, which covers the cost of the meal for the singer and a director or sponsor. Parents or guests coming to observe are welcome and can purchase their meal in the cafeteria if they wish to make use of the WSC food service for lunch. Participation fees will be waived for members of the Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota all-state choirs.
