Anthony Baird

Mr. Anthony Baird is lecturer of music at Wayne State College, where he works with undergraduate trumpet students, directs the Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Brass Ensemble. He also teaches instrumental music education courses and oversees practicum experiences. Before coming to Nebraska from Tennessee, he performed frequently around the Nashville and Memphis areas, having performed with a wide range of musicians/groups such as: Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra, Nashville Praise Orchestra, The Establishment Big Band, Busch Gardens, Melinda Doolittle, Chester Thompson, Tracy Silver, Denyce Graves, and Laura Bell Bundy.

As a secondary school band director, he has taught high school and middle school band in Middle and East Tennessee, as well as in Eastern North Carolina. During his time as a director, he took marching bands to compete at BOA Regionals, Contest of Champions, and the Tennessee Marching Band State Championship. In addition, wind ensembles under his direction received superior concert assessment ratings, qualified to perform at the TBA Concert Assessment and performed at the MFA All National Concert Band Festival.

Baird received his Master of Music in trumpet performance and pedagogy from Belmont University and a Bachelor of Music in music education from Belmont. He currently is in the process of completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Memphis where until recently he served as the trumpet studio graduate assistant. His primary teachers include Joel Treybig, David Spencer, Scott Johnston, and Barbara Adamcik. Scholarly works consist of two master’s thesis: "The Development of the Trumpet and Cornet: Six Pieces" and "Jacques-Hippolyte Maury: A Pedagogical Approach to His Four Solos de Concours for Cornet."

Baird is a Patrick Mouthpieces artist/educator and performs exclusively on Patrick Mouthpieces.
