Claudia Dvorak

Claudia Dvorak teaches Applied Voice and Aural Skills at Wayne State College. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a BFA in Education from Wayne State College.

Dvorak has served as a dedicated music educator in the state of Nebraska for over 40 years - longest and most notably as director of choral activities and instructor of elementary music at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Public Schools in Laurel, Neb. During her 33 years at Laurel, she implemented the school’s first K-12 curriculum for music education and grew the choral program to include four academic choral ensembles, comprising more than two-thirds of the high school enrollment. All her choirs have consistently received Superior ratings at music contests and have earned first place honors at competitions and festivals in Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, and Missouri, while making auditioned festival appearances in Lincoln, Neb., Minneapolis, and Washington D.C.

Dvorak has served as an executive board member and Nebraska State Mentor with the Nebraska Choral Directors Association. In 2011, she was invited to serve as one of 12 All-National Choral Mentors with the National Association for Music Education. She has twice been awarded the Albert A. Haskell Award (2002, 2011) for excellence in teaching and continues to serve as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the state of Nebraska.

Academic Interests

Dvorak’s academic interests include research and development of K-12 curriculum for the music classroom; consisting of cross-curricular and National/State Music Standards based instruction in lesson planning and activities, and the selection and teaching of age appropriate repertoire (song and choral) for developing singers.
