About the Wayne Stater

The Wayne Stater

The Wayne Stater has served the college as its campus newspaper since 1911. Known as The Goldenrod until about 1960, the weekly newspaper provides a learning laboratory for journalism students as well as a local news source for the college and larger community. The Wayne Stater introduced an online issue, thewaynestater.com, in January 2014.

Students affiliated with The Wayne Stater are deeply involved with activities in the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association (NCMA) and regularly host organizational events. The newspaper annually garners high honors at the NCMA’s Golden Leaf Awards, which reward Nebraska college journalists for their work. The Wayne Stater usually finishes in the top three in Best-Newspaper category, and dozens of students have won awards in the past decade.
