Nebraska S-STEM Program

Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) are funded through a National Science Foundation grant designed to increase the number of students pursuing degrees in STEM fields. At WSC, this project is designed to grow participation in the STEM majors of biology, chemistry, and math. Over the next three years, the project aims to bring in up to six students each year. Chosen participants will be academically talented and have low-income backgrounds.

Students receiving the science and math scholarships will be guided by faculty mentors through independent research projects beginning their first year and supported academically by a team of advisors, supplemental instructors, and peer tutors. Students will also receive a research and travel stipend to help them attend regional conferences, network with fellow mathematicians and scientists, and present their research. Students will live in the residence halls for their first two years alongside other S-STEM scholars where they will support each other and develop leadership and professional skills.
