If you are new to volunteering, you must attend one of the training sessions listed below. If you have volunteered before, you are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend one of the training sessions. Moderators are welcome to come to campus to preview the questions; just come to Carhart Science Room 106 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and talk to the office assistant.

Volunteer positions needed for the Nebraska Science Bowls
Moderator: Reads the questions and generally in charge of the room.
Scorekeeper: Keeps track of the score, including points for questions and penalties.
Timekeeper: Keeps track of the time for the match as a whole and for individual question limits.
Rules Judge: Monitors the room for any cheating between the players and the audience, and makes sure all rules are being followed throughout the match.
Science Judge: As challenges arise during the match, the science judge will have the final say in the decision.
Science Bowl Central: Helps out in Science Bowl Central where match scores are reported and recorded, question sets are proofread, edited, and tracked, runners are provided instructions and any other miscellaneous tasks that need to be tackled.
Runner: The mobile arm of Science Bowl Central. Runners will primarily run question sets and scores back and forth between match locations and Science Bowl Central, as well as perform any other miscellaneous tasks as instructed by Science Bowl Central.
Registration: For the participating teams arriving in the morning, check them in, provide them with updated information, and show them to their assigned "home base" location.
Set-up: On Friday afternoon, help set-up all of the competition rooms and deliver all necessary equipment and items to Science Bowl Central.

This year we will have a weather date (the third Saturday of the month) that will be used if either of the competitions gets canceled due to bad weather. Please keep this date in mind as you fill out the volunteer online form.
