In February, teams of young scientists from all over Nebraska gather at Wayne State College for the Nebraska Science Bowls. The first Saturday in February features middle school teams and coaches. The college hosts the high school students and coaches from eastern Nebraska on the second Saturday. The competitions are fun, fast-paced, and intense. The winning team at each level receives an all-expense paid trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C., later that same year in April/May. The 2018 national competition is April 26-30, 2018. The Department of Energy sponsors the national competition.
The goal of the Nebraska Science Bowls, as well as the National Science Bowl, is to encourage students to excel in science and mathematics. Many of these students will continue their education beyond high school and will have a career in an area of science and mathematics.
Congratulations to King Science and Technology Magnet Middle School and Lincoln East High School! They will be representing Nebraska at the National Science Bowl in April!
The registration process for the 2019 Nebraska Science Bowls at Wayne State College will open September 2019.
