The backbone of Wayne State’s guidance is found in the guidelines published by the Nebraska State College System, which states “System and College officials continue monitoring events associated with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) via guidance from the Nebraska Department of Health and local health professionals. New and revised guidance will be added to this document as additional information becomes available. College campuses will be open, and students will have access to residence halls, dining facilities, libraries, computer labs, and the complete range of student and academic support services necessary to successfully provide in-person delivery for the 2022-23 academic year.” View Nebraska State College System guidelines.
The three most important components of Wayne State’s continued response to the coronavirus are vaccinations, hygiene, and masks.
- Vaccinations: The College strongly encourages all students, staff, and faculty to get the vaccine. The Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are offered locally at Providence Community Pharmacy at 803 Providence Road, Suite 101 via walk-in visits and by appointment by calling 402-375-8862. A parent permission form will be required for students younger than 19 who wish to get the vaccine. Download the Providence Community Pharmacy COVID vaccine consent form.
- Hygiene: Good practices such as regular handwashing and self-monitoring are critical components in the overall approach to mitigation.
- Masks: Current medical guidance is to wear masks indoors when in an area with high rates of transmission, especially for those who have not been vaccinated. At this time, no students, faculty, staff, or visitors will be required to wear a mask when on campus.
In-home testing kits are available in the Student Health and Counseling Office. Testing is recommended if you are symptomatic or you have been notified that you were exposed to the virus. Questions? Contact the Student Health and Counseling Office at 402-375-7470 or [email protected]
Wayne State will not be reporting the number of positive cases among the college’s faculty, staff, and students. These reports were part of the procedures at the state and county level under directed health measures and the pandemic state of emergency, which are no longer in place.
