Taryn Winter

Hometown: Elk River, Minn.

Major: Speech Communication, Organizational Leadership, Public Relations

Year: Junior

Transferred from: St. Cloud State University (Minnesota)

Future plans: Graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Possibly achieve a master’s degree. Would like to work in public relations and potentially start her own organization empowering young women.

Winter came to Wayne State because of a friend’s recommendation and with the hope that a smaller college would fit her needs better. After two years, and now serving as the president of the Wildcat Public Relations Club as well as secretary of Lambda Pi Eta, Winter said transferring was the best decision she has ever made.

“It is so easy to be involved here at Wayne. The professors and advisors guide you in the right direction and find activities or clubs for you that fit your personal goals” she said. “I have loved my time in the communications department. Because of the personal connection with my professors, I have been able to make the dean’s list since starting at WSC.”

“I’ve been able to speak at conferences, go on trips, make lifelong friends and connections, all while receiving an affordable education that I will utilize every day to reach my dreams,” she said.
