Holiday Schedule

The State of Nebraska requires that state agencies observe 12 holidays each year. In many agencies, time off is taken on the actual date of each holiday. The state recognizes the unusual nature of educational institutions, however, and allows observation of the holidays to be shifted to alternative dates.

The 12 holidays recognized by the state are:

  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day*
  • Veteran's Day*
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Day*
  • President's Day*
  • Arbor Day*
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day

The Wayne State College holiday schedule is developed to accommodate the academic calendar, to provide for efficient operation of facilities, and to group holidays to provide employees with longer breaks in which to relax, travel, or otherwise use time away from regular duties.

The administrative holiday schedule for all Wayne State College personnel other than instructional faculty for the 2016-17 year will be as follows. Instructional faculty are to follow the approved academic calendar.
