Telecounselors are current students employed by Wayne State College to call prospective students and tell them more about upcoming visits, help with the status of their applications, remind them of upcoming deadlines, and more.

Hours and days worked are from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Each member of the telecounseling team works two nights per week.

When you have worked as a telecounselor for at least one semester (but more typically one year), you may interview to become a supervisor.

DESCRIPTION

Telecounselors act as a liaison between the college and prospective students, marketing the benefits of a Wayne State College education. This interaction occurs over the phone. Telecounselors proactively recruit the next generation of Wildcats. The Office of Admissions sees Telecounseling as one of the strongest arms of recruitment.  The position is both an honor and a responsibility.

Admissions Telecounselors must be a currently registered undergraduate student who has attended at least one semester at WSC, is excited about Wayne State College, involved in campus life, interested in assisting prospective students, and possess strong communication skills. 

Admissions Telecounselors are expected to be knowledgeable, professional, and sincere each time they interact with prospective students and their parents, while on the phone or in any other situation.  Telecounselors are occasionally asked to do volunteer work for special Admissions-related events.

Students must be able to relate to people from many different backgrounds, in addition be knowledgeable about WSC's admission process, as well as the financial aid process.  Experience with computer software, telemarketing or phones can prove to be helpful in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A currently enrolled full-time student at Wayne State College
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA during each semester of enrollment
  • Have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Have a positive attitude toward Wayne State College
  • Work at least 2 evenings a week (6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday- Thursday)
  • Attending all scheduled training and meetings
  • Strong work ethic and desire to set and achieve goals
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere
