Rec Center Policies

Use of the Rec Center is considered a privilege. Rules of conduct must be observed at all times. Anyone violating posted policies, or engaging in any disorderly conduct or inappropriate behavior, including verbal or physical abuse of employees, is subject to immediate removal and loss of facility privileges.

  • Fitness classes require signing up. Sign up for fitness classes on the WSC Recreation website.
  • Fitness on Demand program: ask for a key at the front desk
  • Register for a locker at the front desk
  • Show ID for towels and equipment
  • Most areas in the Rec Center are first come, first serve
  • Limited court reservations at 6:00 p.m. and on weekends

The WSC Rec Center and athletic facilities and/or programs are not responsible for loss due to theft. Users and guests are advised not to bring valuables to the Rec Center. If it is necessary to bring valuables, they should be secured in lockers during workouts. "Lost and Found" items can be claimed at the front desk when a supervisor is on duty. Valuables will be kept in the safe upstairs in the main office and eventually turned into the Campus Security Office.

Arena policies

  • Proper athletic shoes are required. No black-soled shoes, colored soled shoes, sandals, or dress shoes are permitted on playing surfaces except court shoes equipped with non-marking soles.
  • Smoking or use of other tobacco products is not permitted anywhere in the Rec Center.
  • Food, bottles and canned drinks are not allowed in any recreational or athletic area unless otherwise posted. Bottled water is acceptable in plastic bottles only. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at all times. Trash should be deposited in proper receptacles. (Food and drink may be allowed in specific situations during intercollegiate competition and special events.)
  • No spitting in water fountains. Spitting is only allowed in trash cans. Violators could face expulsion.
  • Bicycles, tricycles, unicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, or hover boards are not allowed to be used inside the facility.
  • Only certified service animals are allowed in the facility. All other animals, including emotional support animals, are strictly prohibited.
  • Users are not to move any equipment set up on the courts. Users should ask the area supervisor on duty for assistance with equipment setup or removal.
  • No outdoor sport may be played in the Rec Center during open times unless inside the curtains (baseball, softball, soccer, football, Frisbee, floor hockey, etc.).
  • Excessive hanging on the basketball rims is not allowed. Patrons are responsible for damage to the rim/backboard.
  • Headphones must be used at all times while listening to personal music. Facility supervisors are the only individuals who will manage the music systems.

Racquetball court policies

  • No street or black soled shoes.
  • No spitting.
  • No tobacco products.
  • Eye guards are strongly encouraged to be worn during racquetball and handball. These may be checked out at the front desk.
  • No food or drink allowed in courts.
  • If courts are not in use, they are open on a first-come basis.
  • Racquetball players have priority over use of courts.

Rec Center fitness room 203 policies

  • Check out key to room with I.D.
  • One hour is maximum time allowed in RC 203.
  • The only reservations for this room will be made by the Director or Assistant Director, all other use is first come/first serve.
  • Ask the Rec Center Front Desk Supervisor about Fitness on Demand program.
  • Rec Center Fitness Classes and HHPS Fitness Classes have priority.

Free weight / selectorized / cardio room policies

  • Shirts, athletic shoes, and proper athletic attire must be worn at all times and changing of clothes is not permitted in these areas. All weight room users must have on athletic shoes, no sandals will be allowed. Extra clothing, bags, coats, etc., should be placed in a locker or in storage cabinet. Users are responsible for all valuables and personal items.
  • Users should not attempt to use equipment on which they have not received instruction or are unfamiliar with its operation.
  • Tobacco products, food, and drinks are not allowed in the facilities. Plastic water bottles are acceptable.
  • Users should immediately report any injury or facility/equipment irregularity to the supervisor on duty.
  • Users should use sanitation spray and towel after using a bench or machine. Spray towel and wipe surface.
  • Users must remove and rack the weights after using a piece of equipment. Dumbbells must be used on the mats only and returned to the proper rack.
  • Users must not rest weights on the benches between sets.
  • Athletics, club sports, organizations, other...please see group policies.
  • Slamming or dropping of free weights is prohibited. Weights should not be leaned against walls, glass, or equipment.
  • Professional staff members with keys are not to give them to individuals to open weight room.
  • Use of offensive language will not be tolerated in the facility.
  • Equipment shall not be removed from the Weight Room, Circuit Room, or Cardiovascular Room at any time.
  • Supervisors of these facilities are the only individuals who will manage the music systems and TV’s. All personal music must be headphones. The T.V.'s in the Recreation Center Cardio Room are connected to Audio Fetch. See front desk for instructions to connect to Audio Fetch.
  • Use exercise machines and equipment only for their intended use.
  • Questions should be directed to the authorized facility supervisor.
  • No one not yet through 8th grade will be allowed in weight room/cardio/selectorized rooms any time.

Locker rentals and day lockers

  • All lockers are available to be checked out one semester at a time.
  • All lockers not renewed or vacated by the date indicated (end of each semester) will be opened and cleaned out. Prior to clean out, efforts will be made to contact the owner of the contents in the locker and items may be stored for up to seven days.
  • The Rec Center is not responsible for lost or missing items, either before or after clearance of locker. WSC will not guarantee the security of the items vacated for lockers. Items deemed to have little or no value will not be stored nor made available for retrieval.
  • All lockers with the Rec Center are the property of Wayne State College and are subject to applicable WSC policies. Wayne State College reserves the right to alter the policies governing the use of lockers with appropriate notice. Use of a locker by a person other than who it is issued is prohibited.
  • Misuse of the locker may lead to termination of locker privileges and/or membership.
  • In order to claim removed locker contents, if applicable, members should visit the Rec Center desk. A photo ID is required to retrieve items.
  • It is recommended that facility users not bring valuables into the facilities. Wayne State College is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
  • Day use lockers may be used on a daily basis; however, contents and locks must be removed each day by the close of the facility. No locks are allowed on lockers designated for daily use after closing hours. Those locks remaining on the daily lockers will be considered unauthorized and removed. Wayne State College will not be held accountable for the cost of any personal locks removed from Rec Center lockers. All items removed from lockers with unauthorized locks will be disposed of immediately.
  • Only one locker will be issued to any one member.
  • All personal items must be stored completely within a locker. All items left outside of a locker, whether secured or not, will be removed and disposed of accordingly.

Lost and found

All found items of value are turned over to Campus Security. Valuables are stored in the Campus Security office and must be claimed from a Campus Security officer. Report any lost or stolen items to the front desk or contact Campus Security. Items can be retrieved at the front desk within two weeks. All unclaimed items are subject to be donated.

Photography policy

All photography, videotaping, etc. within the Rec Center must be pre-approved by the assistant director, located in RC 206B.

Guidelines

  • Photography must be conducted without disruption or limitations to Rec Center operations, accessibility of equipment, entrances/exits, doorways, and high traffic areas.
  • Photography is permitted for noncommercial use only. Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner.
  • Taking photos or video of individuals without their consent is prohibited and is cause for immediate removal from the Rec Center and may be reported to Campus Security, Student Conduct Office, and/or Title IX Office.
  • A suitable location for photo shoots must be agreed upon.
  • An appropriate time must be scheduled prior to the shoot.

Rec Center reservations and events

Wayne State recreation facilities were designed with the primary purpose of improving the quality of educational and developmental activities available to the students, faculty, and staff of Wayne State College. Scheduled college activities will have priority, and during certain time periods may restrict usage of the facility.

On-campus groups

  • Contact the Assistant Director at 402-375-7580. On campus groups with off campus participants will be required to sign a WSC Facilities Agreement and provide a Certificate of Insurance.
  • Recurring reservations can be made no more than a week in advance.
  • No reservations Monday through Thursday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. or Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Court reservations for students

May be made a maximum of 24 hours in advance by the Rec Center Supervisor or assistant director. Reservations can be made for one court for one hour. The Rec Center supervisor can extend time if Rec Center is not busy.

No reservations Monday through Thursday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. or Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Racquetball courts, exercise video room (RC203), outdoor tennis courts, walking trail, outdoor track, Frisbee golf course, and sand volleyball courts are first-come, first-served areas. For group use or event request contact the Campus Rec Coordinator at 402-375-7481.

Assumption of risk

The Rec Center operates on an “exercise at your own risk” policy. The use of the facility and its programs is completely voluntary. Each individual utilizing the facility assumes the risk for any harm or injuries sustained. Neither Wayne State College, nor the Rec Center can assume any responsibilities for injuries incurred through participation in its programs and/or services in or outside the facility. However, all injuries should be reported to the front desk and an accident report completed. It is strongly advised that participants use caution, be aware of potential health risks associated with exercise, and obtain a physical from a physician before beginning an exercise program. It is strongly recommended that every participant of the Rec Center activities be covered by a health and accident insurance policy.
