By Bart Vargas.

Ben Vargas

Life is a slow, intersecting journey between humans and the universe. Artist Bart Vargas, of Omaha, Neb., explores this relationship through the use of the circle and the square. Vargas draws on cultural history to interweave these basic geometric shapes into displays of cosmic order between the universe and the self.

A mandala is a spiritual symbol representing the universe through interconnected circles and squares. Circles and squares were celebrated symbols of the ancient Romans, Tibetan Monks, and Native Americans. Inspired by his travels in China, Vargas uses color theory, patterns, and paint to create vibrantly colorful and boldly contemplative works.

Vargas earned his BFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and his MFA at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. His works have been exhibited throughout the United States and across the globe, including Italy, South Korea, India, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Greece, and China as well as featured in many publications, including Sculpture Magazine, New American Paintings, and HGTV Magazine.
