Alumni Trip: "Picturesque Prague and Budapest"

Nestled in the center of Europe, the Czech Republic is a country steeped in history. It is dotted with castles, medieval towns, beautiful mountains, ancient ruins, and world-class wineries. Prague, City of a Hundred Spires, is a UNESCO monument and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Old Town Hall with the famous Prague Astronomical Clock to the Gothic Charles Bridge combines ancient and modern. We will also see Budapest, with its stunning architecture located on a beautiful stretch of the Danube River. It is home to beautiful parks and building, and centuries-old thermal baths.

Day 1: Monday, Oct. 7 - Tuesday, Oct. 8
Let the fun begin! Arrive in Budapest on Oct. 8 in time for a welcome dinner at 6 p.m. Transportation from airport to hotel will be arranged for you. (Dinner)

Days 2-3: Wednesday, Oct. 9 - Thursday, Oct. 10
Budapest, Hungary
Our exploration of Budapest, Hungary’s capital city, will feature the Buda Castle and Castle Hill, Hungarian Parliament Building, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Fisherman’s Bastion, The Danube Promenade, Matthias Church (Church of Our Lady) and more! (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4: Friday, Oct. 11
Bratislava, Slovakia
As we transfer from Budapest to Třebíč, we will spend a half day with lunch in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia. We will arrive that evening at Hotel Joseph 1699 in Třebíč. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 5: Saturday, Oct. 12
Třebíč, Czech Republic
Our ventures in the Czech Republic begin in Třebíč! We will visit the town square and city tower, tour St. Procopuis Basilica, walk the Jewish Quarters and Jewish Cemetery, and see some other sites around town. Lunch and dinner will feature Czech cuisine at local restaurants. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 6: Sunday, Oct. 13
Znojmo, Czech Republic
Let’s visit wine country! Our travels to the Znojmo wine region will feature a tour of the Vranov nad Dyjí castle and the town of Znojmo. We will also explore the Hnánice Village Wine Cellar to enjoy a wine tasting, dinner, and live traditional Moravian music concert. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 7: Monday, Oct. 14
Telč and Slavonice, Czech Republic
Today’s tour will feature southwest Moravia sites near the Austrian border. We will visit the towns of Telč and Slavonice, as well as the World War II South Border Fortification System. Our day will conclude with a duck and dumplings dinner and workshop at a local herb farm. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 8: Tuesday, Oct. 15
Český Krumlov, Czech Republic
Enjoy a 2.5 hour scenic drive to the “gem of South Czech!” We will tour the historic town of Český Krumlov and enjoy a castle tour. Lunch will feature pork on the grill at a Medieval tavern! (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 9: Wednesday, Oct. 16
Lednice and Valtice, Czech Republic
It’s time to head to east Moravia to visit Lednice and Valtice. Our day will feature a tour of the Castle of Lednice and surrounding park. We will also visit vineyards, a local wine maker, and enjoy a wine tasting in the Mikulov wine region. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10: Thursday, Oct. 17
Kutná Hora, Czech Republic
Kutná hora is today’s destination, with visits to several historic churches. We will tour the Church of St. Barbara, Church of Our Lady, Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church), and arrive at Hotel Silencio. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Days 11-12: Friday, Oct. 18 - Saturday, Oct. 19
Prague, Czech Republic
There’s no better way to end our journey than with two days in the beautiful city of Prague! Our explorations of the country’s capital will feature the Prague Castle, Lesser Quarters (Malá strana), Old Town, Old Town Square and Astronomical clock, St. Wenceslav Square, Charles Bridge, Žižkov & Žižkove Tower, and more. We will indulge in food and drinks at traditional Czech beer pubs and the best Pilsner Urquell in the world, tapped straight from the tank. We will also enjoy a classical concert in St. Nicolas Church. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 13: Sunday, Oct. 20
It’s time to say “Ahoj” as we head back home. Transportation from hotel to airport will be arranged for you.
