Ryan Frane and CJ Kocher

Members of the The Frane-Kocher Duo include Ryan Frane, piano, professor of jazz studies and piano at the University of Minnesota-Duluth; and Dr. C.J. Kocher, saxophone, professor of saxophone and jazz studies at the University of South Dakota.

Kocher is a classical and jazz saxophonist. He has performed with the South Dakota Symphony, Sioux City Symphony, and Colorado Music Festival Orchestra. In addition to The Frane-Kocher Duo, Kocher performs with the Sempre Saxophone Quartet and with his wife, Stephanie, in The Kocher Duo. He has premiered works at the World Saxophone Congress and other North American Saxophone Alliance events. Kocher completed his third tour of Japan last summer, playing with the Billy Vaughn Orchestra. He has also played with Frank Mantooth, Matt Wilson, Steve Wiest, Denis DiBlasio, and Al Jarreau. Kocher has a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado as well as degrees from Wichita State University and Washburn University.

Frane has performed throughout the United States, as well as Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Holland, and France. Other notable performances include playing with the Green Bay Packers band, the Denver Nuggets house band, the Big Time Jazz Orchestra, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Arrowhead Chorale, and Lake Superior Youth Chorus. He has also performed with The Mills Brothers, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Bobby Vinton, Steve Lippia, Tom Harrell, Wes Anderson, Rex Richardson, Ingrid Jensen, and Jim Snidero. Frane has a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and a Masters of Music from the University of Northern Colorado.
