Mara Hjelle Bischoff

Mara Hjelle Bischoff (White Bear Lake, Minn.) played women’s basketball at Wayne State from 2007-11. She helped WSC to three NCAA Tournament appearances, one NSIC regular season title and one NSIC Tournament title while recording 1,334 career points (12th at WSC), 829 rebounds (4th at WSC) and 99 blocked shots (6th at WSC). Hjelle Bischoff was a First Team All-NSIC selection as a junior and senior, Second Team All-NSIC selection as a sophomore, NSIC All-Defensive Team selection as a senior and Second Team All-Central Region as a senior. As a senior, she helped WSC win the NSIC regular season title with a 21-1 league mark, the most wins ever by an NSIC team. She averaged 13.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game that season. During her junior season, Hjelle Bischoff produced 15 points and 8.5 rebounds a game and was named MVP of the NSIC Tournament recording 10 double-doubles while scoring double figures in 25 games while leading the league in offensive rebounds per game (3.68). Hjelle Bischoff also excelled in the classroom, named Capital One Academic All-District First Team as a junior and senior and received NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction during senior year for seniors with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Following career at WSC, Hjelle played professionally overseas for four years in Germany and won two championships while also leading the league in scoring and rebounding. Hjelle Bischoff earned a human service counseling degree from Wayne State in 2011 and currently resides in Hugo, Minnesota with her husband Lars and is employed as a school social worker.
