Sara Wells Bents

Sara Wells Bents was a standout thrower for Wayne State College women’s track and field from 2012-15. The Boone Central graduate was Wayne State’s first-ever NCAA indoor national champion as a senior in 2015 as a senior, winning the shot put in Birmingham, Alabama while breaking the school record three times that season. She also won the shot put title later that spring at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Wells Bents was named the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior and was named the Wayne State Female Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2015. As a senior in 2015, she led WSC to best-ever team finish at NCAA Outdoor Championships, eighth place with 26 points. She was also third in the discus to go with a shot put national title as a senior. During her Wildcat career, Wells Bents was a seven-time NCAA All-American that included two national championships (2015 indoor shot put and 2015 outdoor shot put) and was a national runner up in shot put as a junior in 2014. As a senior, Wells Bents won the shot put at seven of eight meets and was fourth at the Drake Relays…also named Most Outstanding Female Athlete at Sioux City Relays. Wells Bents was an NSIC champion seven times – 3-time NSIC outdoor shot put champion (2013,14,15), two time NSIC indoor shot put champion (2014 and 15) and two-time NSIC outdoor discus champion in 2013 and 2015. Sara graduated from Wayne State College in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in applied human and sport physiology. She resides in Sioux Falls with her husband Jordan where she is a radiologic technologist (x-ray tech) with Avera.
