2006 Women's Cross Country

The 2006 Wayne State College women’s cross country team won the Northern Sun Conference Championship in St. Paul, Minnesota, beating the University of Mary 36-49 in the seven-team competition. It is the first and so far only cross country conference championship for Wayne State women’s cross country. WSC had five of the top 12 runners in the race – all freshmen. Megan Zavorka (2nd), Melissa Schmit (3rd), Sarah Thomsen (8th), Molly Gibson (11th) and Megan Knudson (12th). Two weeks later, the team finished 10th in the NCAA North Central Regional Championship hosted by WSC at the Wayne Country Club. The 2006 Women's Cross Country team was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on October 7, 2017.
