Rayna Nelsen Cain

Rayna Nelsen was a standout volleyball player at Wayne State College from 1999-2002. The Homer, Nebraska native was a four time All-Northern Sun Conference First Team selection and finished her Wildcat volleyball career ranking fourth on the all time kills list with 1,517. Nelsen helped Wayne State to the 2001 NSIC regular season title going 16-2 in league play while finishing 24-9 overall. During her senior season in 2002 she recorded 534 kills that ranks fifth most in a single season. She also finished her career ranking third in block assists with 388. She was the first Wayne State Athlete to be named All NSIC all four seasons and was an AVCA All North Region Honorable Mention selection as a senior. Rayna is married to former Wildcat men's basketball player Brett Cain and currently serves as assistant volleyball coach at Des Moines Area Community College. She previously served four seasons as head volleyball coach at Dana College where she turned around a program that was 6-25 and ended 22-14 with a national ranking in the 2009 season. Nelsen Cain was inducted into the WSC Athletic Hall of Fame on October 8, 2011.
