Fred G. Dale

Inducted: 1979

The late Fred Dale was a participant in track, football, and basketball for Wayne State from 1914-16 (then a two-year school), and returned to coach here from 1921-29. Dale left Wayne in 1916 to attend the University of Nebraska, where he lettered three times in football and track. In 1929, he gave up his athletic duties to teach full time - finally retiring in 1961 with the longest faculty tenure in WSC history, 40 years. The college planetarium still bears his name, as does a scholarship presented annually to an athlete with academic excellence. Dale was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame February 3, 1979.
