Don Emery

Don Emery was involved in numerous aspects of the athletic department from 1946 until 1960. During his tenure, Emery was the head coach of five different varsity sports. In addition, he served as director of athletics for 12 years and as chairman of the Health and Physical Education Division for 10 years. Emery is credited with starting two varsity sports. He started the boxing program in 1946 and was the team's head coach until 1950. Competing against several Division I schools, the Wildcats won several conference titles. In the 1950s, Emery began the cross country program. He served as its head coach for four years. Emery also spent 12 years as head coach of the track and field team, as well as one season as head men's basketball coach. In addition, he coached the football team during the 1946 and 1947 seasons, going 4-3 in 1946 and 0-4-3 in 1947. Emery was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame October 2, 1999.
