Dale Clayton was a standout baseball player at Wayne State from 1985-88. He still holds the career record for stolen bases and was the school's career hits leader for nearly 20 seasons. The Marshalltown, Iowa native was a First Team All-CSIC selection in 1987 and a First Team All-NAIA District 11 selection in 1988 as a senior. Clayton is Wayne State's all-time leader in stolen bases with 135, 52 more than any other player in school history. He also ranks fourth in career runs scored (189), sixth in career hits (217) and tied for third in career walks with 109. Clayton helped the 1987 team to a 34-14 record, the most wins at the time for any WSC baseball team, that won the NAIA District 11 title and played at the NAIA Regional. The 1987 team also beat nationally ranked Nebraska 5-4 on April 20 that season.
