The Program

A 4-week Summer program in Costa Rica for the Summer of 2013. The program is for 6 credit hour and will focus on enhancing Spanish language skill and Latin American culture through immersion.  The program is offered in conjunction with COSI Spanish Institute in Costa Rica.


The program includes:

  • A 4-week, faculty led program beginning  June 2nd and returning July 3rd
  • Proposed locations in Costa Rica
    • San Jose
    • Quepos-Manuel Antonio
    • Various field trips
  • Proposed field trips
    • San Jose city tour
    • Plantation tour
    • Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs
    • Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall
    • Manuel Antonio National Park (rain forest, beaches and mangroves)
  • Language instruction- students will take 2 of the following 4 courses
    • SPA 210 Intermediate Spanish 1
    • SPA 230 Conversation and Composition 1
    • SPA 396 Conversation and Composition 2
    • SPA 340 Hispanic Short Story

Costs

The cost for this program is $3,497 per student, which includes:

  • 6 credit hours of tuition and fees (in-state rate)
  • round trip airfare from Omaha, Nebraska
  • housing and most meals (homestays)
  • health insurance
  • field trips and excursions

Program Eligibility

Students currently attending any college or university are welcome to attend, and should have:

  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Completed at least one semester of college
  • One year of college Spanish or equivalent knowledge
  • A passport valid through the end of the trip

Other important things you’ll need to know:

  • Qualified students will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Participation is limited to 20 students

Faculty

The group will be accompanied by a full-time faculty member from Nebraska. Faculty will be responsible for the academic component (supervising local instruction, grading, instructing, etc.) as well as the logistics of the program (transportation, classrooms, housing, field trips, etc.).
