Honors & Recognition
STRIDE provides many opportunities for students to be recognized for their academic achievements and involvement at Wayne State College.
Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society ~Gamma Omicron Chapter~ In March 2002, Wayne State became the first college in Nebraska to form a chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society. Nineteen students became charter members of our Gamma Omicron Chapter. Dr. Elbert Saddler, founder of Chi Alpha Epsilon, traveled from Pennsylvania to conduct that ceremony. Since then, twenty more students have been inducted in the chapter.
Greek letter organizations like Chi Alpha Epsilon value ceremonial tradition. The private induction ceremony provides a memorable, unique experience for members. A public reception follows the ceremony. This is the time when the members are introduced and pinned. Parents, STRIDE staff, faculty and dignitaries of the college are invited to attend.
Membership in Chi Alpha Epsilon is offered to STRIDE students who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive full-time semesters. Continued academic success is encouraged by allowing for initiation pin upgrades to ruby, emerald, or diamond, based on semester GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Thirteen members of the chapter have earned jewel pins. Students who earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the first time are recognized at the public reception with a Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Roll Certificate.
There are currently 103 chapters of Chi Alpha Epsilon across the country. Membership in the society provides students with a strong support system, the opportunity to engage in academic leadership, and a source of professional networking throughout their careers. For more information, please visit the website at www.xaehonor.com, or talk to one of our members or Jeannine Wriedt, the chapter advisor.
All STRIDE first-year students are invited to attend the annual STRIDE Freshman Convocation. Held each January, the Freshman Convocation provides an opportunity to recognize the academic accomplishments of freshmen participants during the fall term.
Students earning grade point average of 3.0 or higher are awarded STRIDE Freshman Honor Roll framed certificates. Students who have earned a grade point average of 2.5 - 2.999 receive Honorable Mention certificates.
Upperclass STRIDE participants serve as hosts, and one STRIDE participant is selected to be the keynote speaker for the event. Members of the Chi Alpha Honor Society conduct the honor ceremony.
The Spring Awards Luncheon is held in April each year. May graduates, TRIO Award recipients, tutors, mentors and scholarship recipients are honored at the ceremony. Parents, family, and friends are also invited to attend.
December Graduation Celebration A celebration honoring December graduates is held at the end of the Fall term. All STRIDE participants are invited to attend. This is a time to celebrate the holidays, celebrate the end of the semester, and wish our graduates well.
Each year, TRIO Achiever Awards are presented to outstanding STRIDE students in recognition of their individual achievements. Students apply for these awards in February. Awards are given out at the Spring Awards Luncheon.
