Wayne State College is committed to providing a quality affordable education for its students. There are several types of financial assistance available for Wayne State students, including grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships. The aid packages are composed of money from Pell grants, SEOG grants, SSIG grants, Perkins loans, Stafford student loans, PLUS loans and a variety of scholarships. Various scholarships and their amounts available to current business and economics majors for the 2007-2008 academic year were:

CHARLES B. GRIFFIN AND FLORENCE KINDLER GRIFFIN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship is awarded to a full-time business major. The student is to demonstrate financial need.

Amount: $2,295

DELTA SIGMA PI--WILLARD WOLLENHAUPT SCHOLARSHIPS
This scholarship is awarded to those students expressing leadership qualities. These persons should have an active interest in the business world and active in the Wayne State College business college.

Amount: $1,885

THE GNUSE-KROHN SCHOLARSHIP
The Gnuse-Krohn Scholarship is to be awarded to a business major enrolled full time as a junior or senior. The person must demonstrate financial need, superior academic performance, outstanding personal character and promise of significant service to the College community.

Amount: $1,515

ROY D. CHRISTIANSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholastic ability, good moral character, and promise of leadership and academic ability is the primary criteria for selection.

Amount: $1,310

FARMERS AND MERCHANTS STATE BANK OF WAYNE SCHOLARSHIP

The Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Wayne Scholarship is awarded to a Wayne-Carroll High School graduate enrolled full-time in business. Preference is given to a business education major. The recipient must be enrolled full-time with at least 60 semester hours earned with a minimum 2.7 GPA.

Amount: $1,000

NEBRASKA SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants Scholarships are to be awarded to students who have the interest and capabilities of becoming a successful accountant, and who are considering such a career. When candidates are reviewed, scholarship, personality, leadership, and character are considered by the instructional staff in accounting.

Amount: Two $750 scholarships

CHRISTENSEN BROZEK FALTYS, PC ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship should be an accounting major from hometowns within a 60 mile radius of Norfolk going into their junior year. Recipients must carry a GPA of at least 3.0. First preference to accounting majors in the 150 hour program.

Amount: Two $750 scholarships

ROBERT JORDAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Robert Jordan Scholarship is awarded to a full-time business major whose permanent residence is in Wayne County, Nebraska. The recipient must demonstrate two or more of the following characteristics: financial need, superior academic performance, outstanding personal characteristics, or promise of significant service to the college community.

Amount: $575

STATE NATIONAL BANK SCHOLARSHIP
The criteria for selection of the State National Bank Scholarship is academic record, character, and promise as a college representative.

Amount: $500

WSC MARKETING FACULTY ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a marketing major, advertising major or advertising minor. Recipient must be full-time and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 based on at least 60 hours of undergraduate course work.

Amount: $500

THE JIM & VERA HUMMEL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time non-traditional student majoring in business administration. The student must be a junior with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Amount: $435

DELTA SIGMA PI/KEN HALSEY SCHOLARSHIP
The Delta Sigma Pi/Ken Halsey Scholarship is awarded to a business major that demonstrates financial need and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Dr. Ken Halsey was a professor in the Division of Business from 1971-74, 1987-98. He served as interim President of Wayne State College for the 1998-99 academic year. In 1995, he was a recipient of the Nebraska State College System “Teacher Excellence Award” and was named “National Advisor of the Year” by the Professional Fraternity Association.

Amount: $420

BARBARA K. KANTER SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship shall be a business major with financial need. First reference to a student from a rural background.

Amount: $405

PHI BETA LAMBDA SCHOLARSHIP
The criteria for selection includes academic ability, promise of leadership and good moral characteristics.

Amount: $310

BUSINESS FACULTY SCHOLARSHIPS
The Business Faculty Scholarships are awarded to students based upon outstanding academic achievement and service to the Department of Business & Economics.

Amount: $300 (four awarded)

TAMRA J. VITERNA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Financial need, scholastic ability, and character were the primary criteria for your being selected.

Amount: $210

COBB & MARGARET OLSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The "Cobb" Olsen Memorial Scholarship is given in recognition of long-time Wayne businessman, Mr. Olsen. Mr. Olsen operated a camera and photography studio in Wayne. Scholarship and character were the primary criteria for selection.

Amount: $130

Academic record, character, and promise as a college representative were the primary criteria for selection.
