Wayne State is holding two opportunities in 2013-2014 for your students to shine! February 7,, 2014 is the annual WSC Honor Choir Festival, and April 5, 2014 is the second annual Show/Jazz Choir Festival. Both events are held on the Wayne State College Campus in Peterson Fine Arts.
Both festivals are directed Dr. Elise Hepworth, director of the WSC Concert Choir and Black and Gold Show Choir. Dr. Hepworth has been a part of the WSC family for five years, and is looking forward to working with your students!
The cost of the 2014 WSC Honor Choir is $9.00 per singer. This fee covers the cost of the meal for the singers and a director or sponsor (minimum of four singers for the director’s/sponsor’s lunch to be covered). Since it will help us maintain balance of parts, if you can nominate two tenors, you need pay no registration fee for the second. Two basses, no registration fee for the second. Bring an extra tenor and/or bass, up to six singers can participate for the cost of four! Parents or others coming that day to observe are welcome, and can purchase their meal as they go through the cafeteria line if they wish to make use of the WSC food service for lunch. The music to be performed is listed on the enclosed schedule. Although sectional rehearsals are indicated, your students will have a better experience that day if some time is spent looking at the music before they arrive. The day will commence with a joint concert with the WSC Concert Choir and 2014 WSC Honor Choir at 4pm I n Ramsey Theater. Admission is free. Registration and payment are due by January 4, 2014.
The 2014 WSC Show Choir Festival has a competitive and non-competitive element and will feature a performance of the 2013-2014 Wayne State College Black and Gold Show Choir before the awards ceremony at 7:00pm Saturday evening. This festival is for both middle and high school ensembles. The entry fee for middle schools is $75 per ensemble, and $95 for high schools for each ensemble entered. This is a perfect opportunity to prepare for the Nebraska State Festival as well as providing a positive festival opportunity for smaller schools! Ratings and comments will be provided, as well as trophies for category winners (Large Ensembles/Small and Medium Ensembles) as well as outstanding soloist, outstanding concept design, outstanding choreography, and outstanding group vocals. All participating ensembles will receive a trophy to commemorate their participation in the day’s events. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12 years. Registration and payment are due by February 5, 2014.
