Course Description
This course will offer students the opportunity to play music from a variety of styles in a large ensemble setting. Emphasis will be placed on balance, blend, intonation, tone quality and technique. Symphonic Band meets weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:20 in FA23.
Materials
Students are expected to have all necessary materials at all rehearsals. This includes all sheet music (supplied by the director), instrument in good working order, a pencil, and all mutes, etc., that are required by the music. If you do not own a mute, see the director immediately.
Student Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on a daily basis in the following areas: Music preparation, attentiveness, musical improvement, and attendance. Preparation through individual practice will be taken into account.
Attendance
Because these are performance classes, attendance at rehearsals is imperative! Students must call the instructor if they are ill or have other problems relating to rehearsal attendance. An unexcused absence from rehearsal will result in a full grade reduction of the semester grade. An unexcused absence from a performance will result in a failing grade for the semester.
