Wayne State College (402) 375-7394
The School of Arts and Humanities is dedicated to developing and expanding students’ intellectual, aesthetic and creative thought and performance through its commitment to high standards and quality programs in Art, Music, Communication, English, and Modern Languages. The School promotes cultural awareness and diversity for students and community members through local, regional and global collaborations and interchange. The school showcases its students’ creativity through a variety of interconnected artistic and technological media, and instills in its students fundamental knowledge by stimulating curiosity, encouraging critical self-examination, and facilitating intellectual discovery.
Nontraditional means of learning are explored regularly, through service learning projects, cooperative education projects, internet-based and innovative internet-enhanced courses, and a myriad of internship opportunities.
In addition, regular Study Abroad opportunities in locations such as Costa Rica and France are supplemented by opportunities for cultural trips through departments—such as recent departmental tours of Ireland and Austria.
Technology
In addition to the significant technological resources available to the general student at Wayne State College, the School of Arts and Humanities houses three discipline-specific computer laboratories and suites of software for student use-- in Graphic Design, Music Technology, and Journalism, as well as a multimedia computer laboratory for use by Arts and Humanities professors and supervised students. Internships
Students from the School of Arts and Humanities participate in a wide variety of internships throughout the Midwest region, and the United States. International opportunities have also been available in France, Japan, and Australia. For-credit internships can be arranged with the School of Arts and Humanities or through the Wayne State Co-op Education Office. Students should contact their academic advisor for information about internship requirements. Although advisors and the Co-op Education staff can help students locate potential internship sites, the most valuable experiences often result from students' own initiatives at finding opportunities that best complement their academic and professional goals.
