Philip Pfaltzgraff, Staff Accompanist at Wayne State College, has a BMusEd from Westmar College (LeMars, Iowa). He has Masters Degrees in Organ Performance and Music Education from Central Michigan University (Mt. Pleasant, MI).
In addition to his collaborative piano responsibilities at Wayne State College, Phil has continued to pursue the field of musical composition and arranging. Several of his compositions for choir (includinga setting for women’s voices of “Psalm 121”,“Let the People Say”—for concert choir and piano, as well as a larger choral work, The Gospel Mass) were premiered while he was in school at CMU, studying composition in the studios of Dr. David Gillingham and Dr. Jose Maurtua. More recently, a large instrumental/choral work, The Time Cycle was premiered at Wayne State College in honor of the college Centennial year, 2009-2010 on November 17, 2009. The Pulse Duo, the WSC Chorale, the Keyboard Ensemble and the Woodwind Ensemble of the college have also premiered some of Pfaltzgraff’s compositions for choirs and instruments.
Mr. Pfaltzgraff has recorded a series of seasonal and thematic solo CD’s on the piano and organ under the title of “Specializing in Improvisation”.
