Drama Club at Wayne State College is open to all Wayne State College students with an interest in Theatre.

This exuberant group meets once weekly to discuss their love of theatre, engage in social activities, and plan events. Outreach is a vital component of this organization. Drama Club hosts many activities and fund raisers. Each December, Drama Club hosts district high-school one-act play competitions. The proceeds from these events assist in defraying the costs for students to travel to Region V KCACTF*, an annual convention celebrating the production of Theatre. This year, the students will be traveling to Fargo, ND in January! BRRRRR!

In addition, the group hosts a semi-annual event called Outspoken. Held in a local establishment, this event allows all participants to give voice to their creative abilities in a monologue slam with categories including, drama, comedy, and improvisation.

Drama Club also hosts an annual Drama Day – a day devoted to high school students. Area high school students enjoy workshops, conducted by Wayne State College Theatre students, that cover many aspects of theatrical production: makeup, set building, costuming, acting, improvisation, relaxation, lights and sound, auditioning techniques, and children’s theatre.

Upon completion of the academic year, Drama Club hosts the annual Theatre Banquet, our own version of The Academy Awards, featuring legitimate as well as faux pas awards.

Committed to the quality production of theatre, Drama Club has underwritten several student productions including Rowing to America: The Immigrant Project, and Dutchman, both staged in the Black Box Theatre.. Drama Club is a recognized organization with Wayne State College’s Student Activities Board. There are no annual fees or dues.

Come be a part of the fun! Support quality Theatre, enjoy a BBQ, take part at a meeting, come bowling!
