The infamous writer, The Marquis de Sade of 18th Century France, is imprisoned for unmentionable activities at Charenton Insane Asylum. He manages to befriend the young beautiful laundress named Madeline. Things go terribly wrong when it is found out that the Marquis' books are being secretly published. It could mean the end of Charenton and possibly the Marquis himself.

Reviews:
Doug Wright’s raffish new comedy, part theater of the ridiculous, part comedy of manners and part Grand Guignol, successfully blends intentional archness, grotesque exaggeration and bold humor to create a theatrical experience of real wit – NY Times

Exuberant theatre making. . . gory, depraved, revolting and – uh-oh – sentimental. On top of all that, the play has something to say about censorship and what happens when you try to suppress art. . . Smirky gross-out fun with a purpose - Variety

Antigone

Sophocles’ classic tale of the repetition and continuation of errors of the past. Antigone, daughter of Oedipus, disobeys the orders of King Creon of Thebes. She buries the body of her brother, Polyneices, a traitor to the city. Creon condemns her to death and has her buried alive in a cave. Though warned by the prophet, Tiresias, Creon sticks to his decree. He eventually relents and decides to free Antigone, but he arrives at the cave too late. With a tragic end, Sophocles presents a dark look at human history and the human capacity to learn from mistakes of the past.

Tales with “guy gets reformed by good girl” sensibility never seem to go out of style. This rollicking fable of Broadway features the competing love stories of (1) gambler Sky Masterson and Salvation Army worker Sarah Brown and (2) Nathan Detroit, impresario of the “oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York,” and his 14 year fiancé, Adelaide, a stripper at the Hot Box Club. Great music and great fun!
