Parents

Congratulations! You and your student are now members of the Wildcat family. While we may be a bit biased, we believe your student made an excellent choice selecting Wayne State College to pursue his or her academic goals and career aspirations.

This is a time of transition and change for both you and your son or daughter. While the experience of sending your child to college may feel overwhelming, it’s a time to celebrate a new chapter in their life. Here at WSC, we strive to build well-rounded students who are challenged both in and outside of the classroom. However, you continue to play an important role in the learning and development of your student.

Our new student orientation program is designed specifically for students. However, there are opportunities for you to learn more about the College and the process of “letting go” as your student makes the transition to college. We encourage you to participate in the parent program scheduled on Friday, August 15 (see schedule below).

Will there be an opportunity to eat in the Dining Hall on Move-In day?

Yes. Parents and guests may join students for lunch in the Student Center Dining Hall. Lunch will be served between 11am and 2:30pm on Friday, August 15. Meal tickets may be purchased at the NSO Check-In Booth located in the Student Center Atrium between 9am and 1pm Friday. Tickets cost $10 per person but children ages five (5) and younger eat for free.

Will we be able to speak with someone if we have questions about tuition and fees?

Yes. The Student Financial Services Office will be open 8am to 5pm Friday, August 15. The office is located on the first floor of the Hahn Administration Building. Please keep in mind that NSO begins at 3pm Friday with the official Welcome Session in Rice Auditorium.

As a parent, when should I leave?

You may decide to leave shortly after your student has settled into their residence hall or you may choose to stay for the parent program that begins at 3pm in Rice Auditorium. Either way, your final opportunity to spend time with your son or daughter will be during “Last Goodbyes” between 2:30 and 3pm.

Who should I contact if I have additional questions about NSO?

Contact Christy Ficke, interim director of student activities, by calling 402.375.7322 or emailing chficke1@wsc.edu.
