"Nut Graphs"

KWSC-TV

KWSC-TV finally got a new teleprompter system during the 2005-2006 academic year.

KWSC-TV’s recording of the Spring 2005 WSC commencement speech by U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, shot by senior Dan Griffith, was considered for a Today Show Commencement Speech montage. We were told that in the end, Dan’s Hagel footage was not used because he didn't say anything funny enough.

WSC Junior Jordan Solko's short film "Anticipation" was accepted by the Independent Film Channel Media Lab, an online destination for aspiring filmmakers to post and receive feedback about their independently produced films and compete for the chance to have them broadcast throughout the channel's regular programming lineup in the spring.

Maureen Carrigg received an honorable mention for Flag Day from the SilverDocs AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Film Festival. Flag Day deals with a man fed up with the American media's lack of reporting on the rising death toll in Iraq. He creates an ever expanding "garden" of flags, each representing a fallen US soldier. Maureen was the producer on the project with members of the International Film and Television Workshops in the summer of 2004.

K92

The Associated Press Newspower service returned to K92 in 2005. The service was discontinued a few years ago, due to a major budget crunch across the Nebraska State College system. School of Arts & Humanities Dean James O’Donnell and Vice President for Academic Affairs Bob McCue went to bat for K92 and accomplished the restoration of funding, allowing students to use the wire service technology they can expect to use in the “real world.” Thanks to Drs. O’Donnell and McCue!!

PC-based automation allows K92 to broadcast 24/7 during the school year. During the summer of 2006, K92 installed a new, more capable automation software package known as Simian. The system is used for radio automation by more than 6000 organizations in 44 countries. During hours when the station is “live,” the automation system supports live-assist programming, with all scheduled promos, PSAs, Rock Minutes, Sports Minutes, liners, and other recorded announcements played from the computer hard drive. Overnight and during some weekend hours, the automation system provides turnkey programming with voice tracks pre-recorded by the K92 DJs.
