“We were certain that it would be a success
asking the community of Wayne to help us support
the Northeast Nebraska Humane Society,”
said K92 Special Events Director Kristina KoKoruz.
“We were very pleased with the outcome,
and would like to thank everyone who donated
to this organization that we feel is very important
and in need of constant support.”
The
lion’s share of the funds given went to
purchase 29 bags of dog food, totaling 1,160
pounds, or three to four months worth of food.
The Farm to Market Ag Center in Wayne contributed
the tales tax for the food. The 24-hour fund
raising event was also supported by Wayne East,
Pac-N-Save, and several businesses in downtown
Wayne.
“This
event was a Service-Learning project, funded
through a Wayne State College Service-Learning
sub-grant provided by the Midwest Consortium
for Service-Learning, added Mike Marek, faculty
advisor to the radio station. “From the
perspective of the students, the special broadcasts
are fun and challenging, but the students also
say that the service they performed showed them
the rewards of actively engaging in serving
the community, in broadcasting and in other
aspects of their lives.”
