KWSC-TV faculty advisor Maureen
Carrigg was invited by the Norfolk Art Center
to select films for a special screening at the
center in June 2006. The theme of the festival
was the work of filmmakers with Northeast Nebraska
connections.
Carrigg noted that the advent of digital video
technology has made video an achievable form
of expression for a huge number of people, resulting
in an explosion of websites that feature short
videos, such as youtube.com, often functioning
as a video equivalent of a snapshot.
" I think then there is the next level
of filmmaker," said Carrigg, "people
that have a little bit better equipment and
they are more aware of storytelling conventions
and more of the visual esthetics that go into
putting video together."
Zeke Brummels, who collaborated with Carrigg
on the film "Highway 12," shown at
the Norfolk festival, agreed on the issue of
esthetics in film.
