The Wayne State College athletic department will be holding Armed Services Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 11, in conjunction with the Wildcats' home football game against Minnesota, Crookston. The game, scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne, is a perfect opportunity to recognize current and past military personnel for their service.
About 150 service members from the 189th Transportation Company from Wayne and Norfolk will attend the game. Veterans from the Norfolk Veterans Home also will be attending the game, five of whom are Wayne State College alumni. Members of the 189th will present the colors for the National Anthem before the game, have a representative for the coin toss and display an Army vehicle in the stadium for fans.
New chair-back bleacher seats in the center section of Cunningham Field spell out "US" in honor of U.S. military personnel and the stadium will be decorated with 75-100 United States flags thanks to the Wayne Chamber of Commerce.
