Dr. Christina Narwicz, artist, will show her work at Wayne State College from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30. Narwicz will be involved in an opening and reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 30. She will make a presentation from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. that same day at Gardner Auditorium.
Narwicz bases much of her work on the natural world. Although often abstracted, the painter's organic themes clearly reference botany, the Caribbean Islands, the constantly changing environment, and her own garden. Narwicz has exhibited nationally and internationally in solo and group shows throughout the United States and Germany.
Her paintings have been featured in publications such as Metropolitan Home, Omaha Magazine, The Briar Cliff Review and The Omaha World-Herald. She was awarded Artist-in-Residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mid-America Arts Alliance as well as three individual Artist Fellowship awards from the Nebraska Arts Council.
Narwicz earned her BFA from Alfred University, New York State College of Ceramics and lives in Omaha. Narwicz was nominated for the 2013 Joan Mitchell Foundation award.
