Nordstrand Gallery Presents WSC Art and Design Alumni Exhibit

The Nordstrand Gallery in Conn Library will host the WSC Art and Design Alumni Exhibit until Sept. 28. The closing reception will be held Homecoming from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the gallery.
The exhibit includes the work of six Wayne State alumni:
Tom Dahlseid '10 started his art experience at Wayne State in the fall of 2006 after graduating from Bloomfield High School. He majored in studio arts initially and narrowed his interests to sculpture, graduating from Wayne State in 2010. He is in the second year of a three-year MFA in sculpture program at the University of South Dakota.
Adam Donner '08, associate member of the American Institute of Architects, is a recent master's of architecture graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his bachelor of science from Wayne State with an emphasis in fine arts in May 2008, and was the 2008 Sculpt Siouxland People's Choice Award winner for a sculpture he designed while at Wayne State.
Chris Holton '10 finished high school in Plainview after living most of his life in Dubuque, Iowa. He began his college career at Wayne State College in the fall of 2003. After a short break from his studies, he returned to Wayne State, and graduated with honors in the spring of 2010. Holton is in his third and final year as an MFA candidate at Montana State University. Chris lives in Bozeman, Montana with his wife Halie, and his son Blake.
MJ Miller '10 is an emerging sculpture artist from the Midwest. After receiving her bachelor of science in studio art from Wayne State in 2010, Miller was accepted into the MFA. program at Kansas State University where she currently resides. Miller uses a vast array of materials from fabrics to forged metals for her large-scale sculptures. She will graduate with her MFA in sculpture in May 2013.
Abbie Powers '07 spent much of her childhood in the dirt, on a horse or in a tree on a farm in south central Nebraska. She holds a bachelor of science in studio art from Wayne State and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. She transforms collections of second-hand and found items into installations, often including performance, video and photographs to enhance the experience for the viewer. She lives in Loveland, Colo., with her husband.
Cody Spiegel '08 earned his bachelors degree in studio art with an emphasis in sculpture at Wayne State in 2008. He attended the University of South Dakota, where he taught and earned his MFA in the spring of 2011. He received an honorable mention for the 2011 International Sculpture Center's outstanding student award and was mentioned in the October 2011 issue of Sculpture magazine. He lives in Wichita, Kansas, with his wife.
