Wayne State College Honor Choir To Perform Feb. 5
WAYNE, Neb. (Jan. 15, 2010) -- The Wayne State High School Honor Choir will perform at 4 p.m. Feb. 5 in Ramsey Theatre on the Wayne State College campus. The Wayne State College Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will also be performing. There is no admission charge.
Students are nominated by their directors for inclusion in the Honor Choir. The students spend the day in rehearsals with WSC faculty members Dr. Ronald Lofgren, director of choral activities, and Dr. Elise Gutshall, assistant professor of voice.
"Students from around the region come to learn more about vocal production and choral singing as well as enjoy the day working with the best singers in the area to present a concert of music that includes a variety of musical styles,'' Lofgren said.
In addition to full rehearsals and section rehearsals, activities for the day will include a workshop for the directors led by Gutshall. Lofgren will conduct the final program.
The program for the Honor Choir includes the Madrigal "Fa una canzona" by Orazio Vecchi; the anthem "With A Voice of Singing," by the English composer Martin Shaw; and "Zungo" by Uzee Brown, Jr. At the conclusion of the concert the college Concert Choir and the Honor Choir will combine to perform "Things that Never Die" by Lee Dengler.
