Wayne State College Counseling Center Reaccredited

WAYNE, Neb. (Oct. 13, 2009) -- The Wayne State College Counseling Center has been reaccredited through June 30, 2010, by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc (IACS), an Alexandria, Va., based organization of United States, Canadian and Australian counseling agencies. The WSC Counseling Center was evaluated by IACS against high standards of counseling practice and was found to offer competent and reliable professional services to its clientele.

"Accreditation standards and State of Nebraska licensing laws require ongoing training and education to help counselors stay up-to-date on mental health and ethics topics," Director of Counseling Lin Brummels said. "Better educated and informed counselors are able to offer progressive and comprehensive services and assistance to WSC students."

Approval by IACS is also dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence of counseling performance. The Counseling Center has met requirements for this accreditation since 1999.
"New ideas for keeping records and writing reports have been incorporated into the daily operation of the center. Better records and clear policies help Counseling Center staff to work together for the best outcome for each student," Brummels said.

The Counseling Center offers personal, academic, disability, nutrition and career counseling. A number of related services are available including substance abuse education and evaluation, violence prevention and group support for some campus organizations. It is a college counseling center that serves WSC students and is one of only two college or university counseling centers in Nebraska accredited by IACS.

IACS was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services that are competent and reliable.
